"I don't think there's anything on this planet that more trumpets life than the sunflower. For me that's because of the reason behind its name. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that's such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life." - Chris's (Helen Mirren) comment in the movie, "Calendar Girls."

Heat Wave

Well, the sun continues to try and kill us. It was close to a 100 today. Crosby, the delicate flower that he is, only wants to go out for short intervals. I can't blame him, but the constant in and out is enough to make me want to go back to work tomorrow! I had to have the roto rooter guy out today as the basement flooded when the drain backed up. It is of course the dreaded tree root in the line. How I hate the unplanned expenses to home ownership!

I saw my friend Pat last night and she is getting around o.k. with her walker, but she is very unsteady. She had an afternoon doctors appointment where they cancelled all her upcoming appointments. They told her she has about 4-maybe 6 months left. She is no longer on any cancer drugs just prednzone to keep her brain from swelling. When the drug stops working she will be home, bed, bound. I pray the drug works as long as it can. She seems to be very resolved to what is happening, but at times weepy, which is only natural. She has not lost her sense of humor, someone asked how she was feeling and without missing a beat she said...I feel like I'm dying.
Kinda puts everything in perspective.
